Monitor Going Bad?

Is it possible that my monitor is going bad? There's a feature on this monitor that enables me to push a button to zoom in, vivid picture, warm picture or normal picture. Well I don't normally use that, but today I tried the vivid mode and while it made this website a little easier to read. It also seems to make other websites that aren't dark, somewhat blurry. So I put it back to normal mode and checked my brightness setting. I found that it was already at %80 and I bumped it up to a full %100 and it got a tad brighter. Otherwise at %80 in normal mode it was making all the websites pretty dark and harder to read.

So that's got me wondering if my monitor isn't on it's last legs here. I shouldn't have to have brightness at %100 and then in vivid mode even to make it even brighter. Just to see things in games and websites like this which are very dark. I can't remember how long I've had this current monitor. Probably at least about 5 years now I would guess. Do ya'll think I'd be able to see stuff better if I was to get a new monitor?

My current desk wouldn't really allow a super huge monitor. As there's a shelf to the left of where the monitor area is. And the monitor shelf isn't that long either. I could obviously move my cable modem and router to be under the shelf on the left. But I'm guessing I still would only have enough room for maybe a 22" monitor or something. Do they even make that size? I guess I'll have to go check NewEgg and places.

Do they make LED monitors? My sister told me they're better (tv wise) than LCD's. Do ya'll notice a big difference with the new style of monitors that they make? As opposed to the old school monitors that are fat? I'm not sure what this type of monitor is called I have, but it's not a flat panel or what not.

That would depend on what type of LED TV you're talking about. Some LED TV's are actually LCD TV's that are backlit by LED's.

There are also the newer OLED TV's that are superiror (or so they say) but supposedly break down alot faster than an LCD or plasma would. They sound much more frail than your LCD or plasma but I'd imagine that will change over time.

This stuff is too new for me to consider it as an option because they're at the point to where they have to always switch something around to fix an issue with the technology. I'm sure they will be better than LCD's and plasma TV's but I wouldnt bother right now because of how new this stuff is.

They would use less power and run much cooler so in that aspect they're much better but at this point the only thing that matters IMO is how well the TV (or monitor, they're basically the same these days. I can hook my PC up to my TV (42") and it's a far better picture than my PC monitor) holds up over time. Do you want something new and fancy with a better picture and risk it breaking down or something slightly older and proven to hold up? It's an easy question to answer really, if you have money to burn then buy fancy, if not then get the best bang for your buck.

You wont likely nothice a huge difference in quality between high end products anyway.

Yeah I did a google search and I tried the suggestions people were giving. Except for the one where I could possibly be shocked to death lol. Looks as though I'll be looking for a new monitor. What brand/model do ya'll use? Would you recommend the one you're using? I'd like to get one asap. This is quite annoying to say the least. It'll last for awhile yet, but the sooner the better. That is if I have the funds available to get one right now.

Yeah I would've probably bought it from NewEgg if I wanted to wait awhile longer for it hehe. My eyes do suck though, but I just had them checked in March. I had thought perhaps it was just me, but one of my nephews noticed it last night too.

This looks pretty damned good so far from what I've seen with it. This website is a lot easier to read now as opposed to the old crt I had. :cheers:

Am I not supposed to be able to stretch the viewing area to fill the whole screen? It's like there's a border around the viewing area. I've looked at the on screen display functions and other stuff and don't see how to fill it out. If it's even possible. The games I've played seem to fill all the way out. At least Fallout 3 did . Left 4 Dead almost filled it all.

I see there's controls for horizontal and vertical, but it won't allow me to access them to adjust them. I'll keep messing with it, but if ya'll have one of these setups and know how to get it adjusted. Let me know lol.:D

Are you switching from standard to widescreen or something? If so then it will seem a little strange with many websites because of the extra space but you'll get used to it.

Yeah it's a widescreen. At 1920 x 1080 I had borders around the viewing area for some reason. I finally figured out how to adjust it and fill the whole screen. Had to use nvidia controls to do it. Besides a slight yellow tint on white, depending on my angle of view. This is pretty sweet. It's going to take some getting used to for games and such. Now I can watch porn in HD lol.

:wave::cheers:
